History

The "GOLF COURSE"

The Warwick Golf Club was founded in 1905. It is believed that it is one of the oldest golf clubs' in Queensland. The course is situated on the top of "Mill Hill", located just a couple of minutes from the centre of town.

There has been some alterations to the original course design over the years but no major changes to the course layout have been put into effect. Below is a photo taken in 1961 of the golf course and the you can see for yourself with regards to the present day layout that the changes that have been made are mostly cosmetic.

Work has been done on several greens since '61. Recently these include the 2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 15th and 17th holes. With a renovation regime planned for the next couple of years, all of the greens will be changed to a more resilient type of bent to improve the putting surface and to provide the golfers with a tough but fair test of golf. With the inclusion of water storage dams built on the northern side of the course, the persistent water problems should have less of an impact. The course now has fairway watering which is in its final stage of upgrading to increase efficiency.

Here is the upgrading work of the 5th Green, with a new bunker and putting surface. The green has been enlarged with added undulations.
